MATER CHRISTI SCHOOL PRE PRIMARY NATURE PLAYGROUND

Building on a strong relationship with Mater Christi school, NBP returned to design and construct an imaginative nature playground for the pre primary children.

The large central space is encircled by a bike track, complete with refuelling stations and textural path crossings. Adjacent is a grassed area for free play.

At the heart of the playground sits a bespoke double climber fort, featuring two slides, perch decks and a range of climbing challenges with ropes.

A rock mound water play feature, with carved water channels flows into a sandpit area bordered by carved top logs and natural boulders.

Adjacent to this is the adventure trail, offering a variety of exciting elements such as a rope bridge, balance logs, steppers, monkey bars and sensory and musical elements to discover along the way.

There are two swing sets; a classic NBP double swing and a multi-swing loop, allowing kids a diverse freedom of movement.

For creative and contemplative play, the playground offers a multi use gathering circle, seating deck, cubby frames with loose parts building sticks and moveable timber water chutes. New trees planted will grow up and add shade and character to this playground over time.

Firstly, I cannot express in words how in awe I, my staff and children are of the Pre-Primary playground. This really was a project of love by you and your team who were incredible during their time on site.”

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
