YANGEBUP FAMILY CENTRE NATURE PLAY

NBP was approached by Yangebup Family Centre in August 2021 to upgrade their existing outdoor space with a new nature playground to include not just physical play, but sensory, construction and imaginative play also.

A design was finalised and construction commenced in March 2022. Much of the original steel playground and old rubber softfall were removed, with some items retained where possible to be incorporated into the new play space.

The new nature play features an impressive toddler play tower with graduated timber decking and slide.

Sensory elements include music walls with touch and sound items and peek through openings for interpretive and imaginative play.

Physical elements include a crawl-through tunnel, large limestone climbing rocks and jarrah balancing logs.

Always a favourite with children, the rock water feature with carved water rocks and carved top logs into a sandpit will provide hours of fun.

Other stimulating activities include talking pipes, a log abacus and a hollow log play tower with timber steppers and slide.

The nature play was finished off with new Eucalypt tree plantings to complement existing shade structures. New rubber softfall, sandpits and softfall natural mulch complete the area for safe play.

Nature Based Play believes that, especially in the context of Nature Play, there is much to be gained from pursuing a deeper understanding of the cultural, spiritual and educational practices of First Nations peoples.

Our offices and workshop are located on Whadjuk Noongar Boodjar, though our work takes us all across the State. As such we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we work throughout Western Australia.
